We are one month into the Republican shutdown, and families across Washington are feeling the impact. Health care costs are skyrocketing as open enrollment begins today on Washington Healthplanfinder, with premiums expected to rise an average of 65%. At the same time, President Trump attempted to withhold SNAP benefits, putting 900,000 families in Washington at risk of going hungry. Yesterday, a court ruled that Trump must use funds that Congress set aside to pay for the federal food aid program.

These are choices made by President Trump and Republicans in Congress. I am fighting every day to reopen the government, make health care more affordable, and ensure families don’t go hungry.
