Dear Friend,
In Republicans’ big tax bill, they’re claiming victory on expanding the Child Tax Credit, but the reality is it deliberately leaves out too many kids in families that need it most.
I’m one of the leaders in Congress pushing to expand the Child Tax Credit, but the Republican plan makes the credit worse. It continues to roll back the historic progress we made in 2021, when Democrats expanded the credit to reach over 61 million children, cut child poverty in half, and delivered monthly payments of up to $300 that helped families afford everyday essentials like rent, groceries, and child care.
If the Republicans’ bill passes, over 400,000 Washington children would be denied the full benefit because their families earn too little — including households where both parents work full time at minimum wage. Yet, that is still not enough for Republicans. This plan overwhelmingly favors wealth over working families and ignores the real costs of raising kids today.
