This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that all adults 18 and older should get a COVID-19 booster. As we enter the holiday season, boosters will provide extra protection, however you plan to celebrate. Here’s what the recommendation means for you:

• If you received the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series, you are eligible for a booster six months after your second shot.
• If you received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, you are eligible for a booster after two months.
• After completing your initial vaccination, you may receive a booster shot from any of the three vaccines authorized by the CDC and FDA for use.

We also learned of the presence of the Omicron variant in the U.S. this week. There is no reason to panic while scientists continue to investigate this new variant. The Biden administration has already come out with a plan and strategies they will take to protect Americans from COVID-19 this winter. The most important steps you can take to keep you and your family safe are to be vaccinated and get a booster when you are eligible.
