Dear Friend,
Today, we celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. This historic law has improved the lives of millions of Americans by allowing them to get health care coverage and protecting people with preexisting conditions. Last year, a record 21.3 million people enrolled in coverage because of the Affordable Care Act, including more than 270,000 Washingtonians.
No law is perfect and that’s why Democrats have continued to build on it. Last Congress, we passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which strengthens the Affordable Care Act by lowering health care premiums for millions of families. It is also lowering health care costs for seniors and other Medicare recipients by capping insulin at $35 per month, capping prescription drug out-of-pocket costs at $2,000 annually starting next year, allowing Medicare to negotiate for cheaper prescription drugs, and more.
