SUPER BOWL XLIX: Seahawks v. Patriots Wager

Rep. DelBene places wager with New England Rep. Courtney on outcome of upcoming NFL Super Bowl game

Super Bowl XLIX kicks off on Sunday, and the high-profile game has two Members of Congress placing a friendly wager on the outcome. Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) has placed a wager with Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) on whether the Seattle Seahawks or the New England Patriots will lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy this weekend.

DelBene will be putting up a basket of local Washington state treats that contains SeaBear smoked salmon and Chateau Ste. Michelle and Avennia wine – all from Washington’s First Congressional District. Also included will be a bag of Skittles in honor of running back Marshawn Lynch.

An avid Patriots fan, Courtney will wager a basket of Connecticut goods that contains beer from Cottrell Brewery in Pawcatuck, Connecticut oysters, and UConn Husky chocolate bars from Munson’s Chocolates in Bolton.

“I’m looking forward to enjoying some great East Coast refreshments on my way back home,” DelBene said. “This Super Bowl promises to be a great game between two talented teams. We have the best rushing offense; the Pats are 18th. We have the best passing defense; the Pats are 9th in passing offense. You know what? This isn’t even going to be close. In honor of Russell Wilson’s 10-0 record against Super Bowl champion QBs and Tom Brady’s 10 years without a Super Bowl win, I say ‘Hawks by 10.”

"As the Congressman representing UConn, I am used to Washington state Husky fans’ lame trash talk about my Connecticut Huskies. Yawn! Now the trash is directed at the at Patriots. Like the UConn men and women 2014 national championship teams, the Patriots will once again demonstrate their superiority and bring another championship trophy home to New England, the home of Walter Camp, the Father of American Football. I’m looking forward to smoked salmon!"

The Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots on Sunday, Feb. 1 in at University of Phoenix Stadium at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
