HOW CONGRESS CAN LOWER COSTS AND SUPPORT WORKING FAMILIES

Dear Friend,

This week, I spoke about the importance of restoring the expanded Child Tax Credit, which provided families with monthly payments of up to $300 per child. This program made it easier for parents to afford everyday expenses like groceries, gas, child care, and rent. These payments made a huge difference in helping families feel more financially secure and setting kids up for success.

The data on the effectiveness of the expanded credit is clear. When Democrats expanded the credit in 2021, it cut childhood poverty nearly in half. It also created huge benefits for our economy, making it easier for parents to return to or remain in the workforce and saving us money long-term. Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress refused to extend the expanded program.

Families are facing an affordability crisis thanks to Trump and Republicans’ economic policies. Instead of investing in smart programs like the expanded Child Tax Credit, Republicans in Congress are focused on cutting taxes for the wealthy and well-connected.
