Dear Friend,
The Constitution gives Congress - not the president - the explicit power to declare war. A decision this consequential should never have been made by one person. The president is not a king.
Trump’s war with Iran is one of the most significant military operations in decades. This conflict is putting the lives of U.S. troops and innocent civilians at risk. I cannot support a war that has no specific goals, legal rationale, or clear justification. The president has provided none of those. That’s why I voted for the war powers resolution this week.
Check out my conversation with House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith from earlier this week about the vote.
