Dear Friend,
Any family knows that when bills are due, you have to pay them. Our federal government has the same obligation. The clock is running out before Congress must raise our borrowing limit to pay our bills and avoid catastrophic damage to our global economy.
This week, Republicans advanced a bill that would prioritize paying foreign debtholders before veterans and servicemembers. I called them out for attempting to deceive Americans into thinking they’re taking action when, in reality, “debt-prioritization” is just default by another name.
There’s only one solution to addressing this looming crisis–raising our borrowing limit. Congress needs to raise the debt ceiling, just like we did three times without issue during the Trump administration. Anything less would lead to an economic crisis, increasing everyday costs for middle-class families and destroying millions of jobs nationwide. It's time to stop playing political games and focus on what's best for our economy and the American people.
