Dear friend,
Navigating our health care system can be complicated and frustrating, but I'm working hard to make it easier and more affordable for you. Here's a quick update on what I've been doing this week to improve care and lower costs:
Streamlining Care for Seniors: I introduced bipartisan legislation that would help over 31 million seniors on Medicare Advantage, including 730,000 in Washington, get the health care they are entitled to faster by streamlining and modernizing burdensome insurance practices. That means no more faxes and calls with health insurers or delays in getting routine procedures approved.
Making it Easier to Donate Lifesaving Organs: A key House committee voted unanimously to advance my bipartisan bill, which would make it easier for living organ donors to qualify for reimbursements, covering expenses such as wages, travel, and caregiving. Right now, many people avoid becoming donors because of the cost burden it puts on them. Next, I will work across the aisle to get this bill passed through the full House of Representatives.
Keeping Health Insurance Supports in Place: Enhanced federal health subsidies have lowered monthly insurance premiums over the past few years for millions of Americans, including over 250,000 Washingtonians. That’s why I recently signed onto the Health Care Affordability Act, which would continue these subsidies to keep people covered and prevent your health care premiums from going up. If Congress doesn’t act, premiums will likely increase by over $1,300/year on average and 55,000 Washingtonians could lose coverage entirely.
