Dear friend,
Since the Supreme Court’s conservative majority took away women’s reproductive rights earlier this year, Americans across the country have also worried about what other rights could be taken away next.
While the court did not directly target marriage equality, Justice Thomas expressed interest in revisiting and possibly overturning precedent that guarantees marriage equality for same sex and interracial couples.
Love is love. Couples that are building their lives, families, and futures together should have certainty that the federal government will recognize and respect them. That’s why I voted for the Respect for Marriage Act this week.
President Biden is expected to sign the bill soon, enshrining same-sex and interracial marriage equality into law and ensuring those couples will have the protections that all families deserve, no matter who is sitting on the Supreme Court.
