Meanwhile, President Trump is promising to impose sweeping tariffs on our top trading partners like Canada and Mexico. Tariffs are a tax, and broad-based tariffs raise the cost of goods and services for families and can damage Washington's economy. The president’s tariffs could raise prices by thousands of dollars a year at the pharmacy counter, grocery store, and gas pump. They would also threaten jobs in our state, where 40 percent of jobs are tied to trade.

Republicans are proposing these spending cuts and import fees to pay for another round of massive tax breaks for the wealthy and well-connected. 

This isn’t a plan to lower costs. It’s a plan that makes life harder for families. I’ll continue fighting for solutions that lower costs for families, create good-paying jobs, and grow our economy.
