Dear Friend,
The Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade last summer continues to have a big impact on Washington’s reproductive care services, despite abortions being protected by state law. People from states where abortions are banned, including Idaho, are traveling to Washington to get the reproductive health care they need.
However, the threat to abortion access looms large even in Washingtonian state. Any day now, a Trump-appointed judge in Texas could issue a decision banning the abortion medication Mifepristone. This FDA-approved medication is safe, effective and has been on the market for over two decades. Even in states like Washington where abortion remains legal, we could see access to this medication cut off.
This week, I hosted a roundtable discussion with state officials, abortion care providers, patients, and advocates to discuss how these challenges impact Washington. We also explored ways we can expand access to reproductive care and defend Washingtonians’ right to make their own health care decisions.
