Flags

**NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and limited staffing at the Capitol Flag Office, flag orders may be delayed up to 4 weeks or longer.

Many constituents from Washington's 1st District request American flags flown over the U.S. Capitol for different occasions. Flags may be dedicated to any person or organization, or for any event, holiday, or memorial of their choice.

These flags may also be flown on any specific date, including weekends and all holidays except: Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Each flag is boxed individually and includes an authentic certificate which will accompany each flag you order, showing the day it was flown and the occasion for which it was flown.

To request a flag from my office you can submit a request online. Requests made online must be paid for using bank account or credit/debit card information or by mailing a personal check.

NOTE: My office can accept flag requests only from residents of the 1st District or requests shipped directly to an address in the 1st District.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please submit your flag request no later than two weeks before the fly date. After the flag has flown, please allow for approximately 3 to 4 weeks to receive your flag. The flag office requires 2 weeks to fulfill a request. Once the request is filled, flags are mailed out regular postal mail and may take 1 to 2 weeks for delivery.

Care of the Flag

Most outdoor flags can be washed in mild detergent and thoroughly rinsed. Indoor and parade flags should be dry-cleaned. Damaged flags can be repaired and utilized as long as the overall dimensions are not noticeably altered. American Legion Posts and local governments often have facilities to dispose of unserviceable flags. Store your flag in a clean, well-ventilated area.
