DelBene Announces Rep. Larry Bucshon as Co-Chair of the Kidney Caucus

Today, Rep. Suzan DelBene announced Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN) as co-chair of the bipartisan Kidney Caucus.

“I want to welcome my friend Rep. Bucshon as co-chair the Kidney Caucus. He’s been a great partner in our work to help people with kidney illnesses, and I look forward to working with him on bipartisan legislation to improve the care and quality of life for the 30 million Americans suffering from chronic kidney disease,” said DelBene.

“I am excited to be co-chairing the Kidney Caucus with my friend, Rep. Suzan DelBene. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, I encountered many patients that also had kidney disease, and I understand the impact that kidney disease has on the lives and health of Americans.  I look forward to working with the Rep. DelBene and the other members of the caucus to continue working to promote research and new treatments for patients with kidney disease,” said Rep. Bucshon.

In 2017, the Kidney Caucus helped pass a bipartisan home dialysis bill, as part of the Medicare Part B Improvement Act. The caucus helps educate lawmakers and the public on issues facing kidney disease patients and the federal government’s role in providing access to treatment.

Currently, Co-chairs DelBene and Bucshon are circulating a letter to the House Committee on Appropriations requesting federal matching funds for KidneyX, a public-private partnership between kidney stakeholders, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to spur innovation in the kidney care space.

Rep. DelBene has chaired the Kidney Caucus since 2017 and is a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over health care.
