DelBene Votes in Favor of War Powers Resolution on Iran

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) joined House Democrats in passing a War Powers Resolution that directs the Administration to halt the use of U.S. Armed Forces against Iran without authorization from Congress. This vote was taken in response to the president’s military airstrikes against high-level Iranian officials without any Congressional consultation.

“Today’s vote was the result of this administration failing to consult with Congress regarding the airstrikes that targeted high-level Iranian military targets. The Administration’s briefing yesterday failed to justify its actions and this resolution will prevent the United States from getting drawn into another long-term conflict in the Middle East without a thorough debate in Congress,” said DelBene.

Since coming to Congress, DelBene has consistently advocated for Congress to vote on a new AUMF instead of relying on AUMFs from 2001 and 2002 to justify new conflicts in the region. She has also supported recent efforts to repeal the 2002 Iraq AUMF.
