Protecting Our Democracy a Year After the January 6 Attack

Dear friend,

Today, we observe a somber anniversary as we mark one year since armed insurrectionists launched a deadly attack on the United States Capitol with the intent to forcefully overturn the results of the 2020 election. I was there that day and the direct and violent assault on our democracy will go down in history as one of our nation’s darkest days.

While our democracy proved stronger than those who carried out the assault, Congress must ensure that events like January 6 never happen again and your fundamental right to vote is protected.

Last year, I supported the passage of a number of bills in the House that would strengthen our democratic processes, ensure equitable access to the ballot box, and honor the heroism of our U.S. Capitol Police and other January 6 first responders. The House also established a committee to investigate the January 6 attack because we need accountability for the violence that took place that day.

Our work in Congress is not over. To preserve our democracy, the Senate must pass these critical voting rights bills to restore faith in our elections.

As always, I am here to help you. If you need assistance at this difficult time, please don’t hesitate to leave a message at my Kirkland office at (425) 485-0085. For more updates on what I’m doing for WA-01, you can follow me on social media at the links above.
