DelBene Announces Winner of 2022 Congressional Art Competition

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) announced Peter Lee, a junior at Interlake High School, as the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Washington’s 1st Congressional District. Lee’s acrylic painting, “With A Purple Heart,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

“As always, I am in awe of the creativity and empathy of our young artists in WA-01,” said DelBene. “Our winner, Peter showed a clear mastery of material and medium as well as immense compassion through subject matter. ‘With A Purple Heart’ captures feelings of struggle and loneliness that can come with growing up and reminds us all of the work that needs to be done to raise awareness around mental health. Thank you to all the students who submitted and made the 2022 Congressional Art Competition special!”

Since 1982, the Congressional Art Competition has been an opportunity for members of Congress to celebrate the talents of student artists from across the country. Over 650,000 high school students have participated nationwide.

“With A Purple Heart” was selected by a panel of members from the local WA-01 art community and a photo of the artwork can be found here.
