DelBene Announces Seniors Will Pay No More Than $2,000 a Year for Prescription DrugsToday, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) announced a new benefit for seniors on Medicare that will cap their Part D out-of-pocket prescription drug costs at $2,000 a year. This provision of Democrats’ 2022 Inflation Reduction Act will save over 340,000 Washington seniors an average of $413 per year. “One of the biggest expenses for seniors and their families is prescription costs and Democrats are lowering the price they pay at the pharmacy counter. The new annual out-of-pocket drug price cap will save seniors hundreds of dollars a year. This new benefit builds on other cost-saving aspects of the Inflation Reduction Act, and I will continue to find ways to make life more affordable for everyday Americans,” said DelBene. Medicare beneficiaries do not need to take any action to receive this benefit. Patients can also take advantage of a new payment plan option that will spread the cost of prescription drugs over the entire year, avoiding large upfront costs early in the calendar. These benefits build on other cost-saving provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, including free vaccines, the $35 per month insulin cap, and Medicare drug price negotiations.
