Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and all other Ways and Means Committee Democrats are demanding access to all information related to DOGE and Elon Musk’s hostile takeover of Treasury’s payment systems. This alarming violation of confidential tax and health data represents a serious and illegal infringement on the privacy of all Americans. DelBene and her Ways and Means Democratic colleagues introduced a Resolution of Inquiry to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch and hold Trump and Musk accountable for this unlawful breach of confidential taxpayer information. “Our tax system relies on Americans’ trust that their sensitive personal information is protected by the federal government, but instead Donald Trump is letting Elon Musk and his associates break into various secure federal systems and exploit Americans’ financial, health, and tax information,” said DelBene. “The lack of transparency and accountability puts American families at risk and Ways and Means Democrats will continue to conduct oversight and hold the administration accountable.” “Privacy is next to liberty in our Democratic system, yet the President and his billionaire cabinet are jeopardizing that standard for their own power and enrichment and House Republicans haven’t so much as raised an eyebrow,” said Ways and Means Ranking Member Richard Neal. “Every time this Administration threatens the health and well-being of the American people, Ways and Means Democrats will be there fighting and sounding the alarm, and I applaud Ranking Member Doggett for his steadfast leadership in exposing DOGE and protecting the American people’s data.” “These unprecedented times call for this rarely used tool to seek answers to questions Trump has authorized DOGE to dodge. ‘Trust Musk’ is just not acceptable,” said Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Lloyd Doggett. “We can unite in support of this reasonable Resolution to seek the transparency and accountability Americans deserve unless Republicans want to remain complicit with the wrongdoing.” Lawmakers are giving the President and the Secretary of the Treasury 14 days to submit all relevant documents, records, audio recordings, memoranda, and other materials to the House of Representatives regarding the following: (1) Elon Musk's and DOGE's access to and use of Treasury's payment systems; (2) their access to and use of confidential taxpayer information under Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code; and (3) any screenshots taken by Elon Musk and DOGE of Treasury payment system data or records.
