DelBene & Larsen announce $1 million in Federal Money for Bellingham Airport to Upgrade Winter Operations for Travelers and General Aviation Apron

BOTHELL - Rep. Suzan DelBene, WA-01, and Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, today announced that the Port of Bellingham will receive two grants totaling approximately $1.1 million to support the expansion and upgrade of Bellingham International Airport’s existing de-icing facility and the rehabilitation of an existing general aviation apron.

A grant of $500,000 that was awarded for the de-icing facility will help the airport better support more flights and planes during the cold and snow-filled winter months at the airport. A second grant of $655,000 will help fund the design phase to rehabilitate an existing general aviation apron that has reaching the end of it’s useful life.

“Bellingham International Airport is a key part to helping Whatcom County’s economy continue to grow and remain vibrant,” said DelBene. “These federal dollars will help the airport run smoothly year round and allow more flights to stay on schedule even during the cold winter months.”

“This investment in Bellingham International Airport will help create stability and predictability for passengers,” said Larsen. “Smart investments in our transportation infrastructure like this create jobs, improve safety and provide the base for future economic growth. I am fighting for robust transportation funding so we can continue investing in projects like this that create jobs and improve our community.”
