DelBene, Local Students Make Valentines for Veterans

BOTHELL – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today visited local elementary schools to join students in making Valentines for Veterans – a program that encourages the community to recognize veterans throughout the year.

“The Valentines for Veterans program is a wonderful opportunity for our local students to make a connection with a veteran and thank these brave men and women for their service,” DelBene said. “We should all show our appreciation for those who served our country in uniform by asking veterans to ‘Be Mine’ this Valentine’s Day.”

DelBene visited Dickinson Elementary and Henry David Thoreau Elementary during students’ craft time. The valentines made on Monday will now be delivered to the local VA hospital and veterans service organizations.

DelBene was joined by Lindsay Zike, a local veteran, who helped explain to students what it means to be a veteran.

“It is important that we find ways, through programs like Valentines for Veterans, to connect our veterans to local communities and local communities to our veterans,” Zike said. “For the next generations to see our former and current service members as their neighbors, family, friends and every day members of our communities helps to break down barriers between our service men and women and those who will one day grow up to shape the future of this nation.”
