Washington First Congressional District Rep. Suzan DelBene was in Seattle’s Capitol Hill on Monday to lead a roundtable discussion about LGBT equality and promote federal legislation that would make a major impact in achieving that. “This is an important conversation and, very sadly, we’re coming together a week after a terrible tragedy in Orlando,” DelBene said. The congresswoman went into the roundtable discussion Monday morning feeling positive about four pieces of legislation that would be considered by the U.S. Senate strengthening background checks and preventing suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms. Less than 12 hours later, all four bills failed. And after Democratic senators held a filibuster lasting more than 15 hours, ending it when they were certain votes would take place. |
