DelBene: ‘This Chamber Isn’t Interested in the Facts’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today voted against yet another attempt by Republicans to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and block funding for Planned Parenthood.

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today voted against yet another attempt by Republicans to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and block funding for Planned Parenthood.

“The continuing attacks on women’s health are not only inexcusable, but also a huge waste of time. House Republicans have failed to provide any evidence of wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood to justify what is now the sixth vote to defund the organization, which provides lifesaving healthcare to millions of Americans,” DelBene said. “But with each passing week, it becomes clear this chamber isn’t interested in the facts. It’s only interested in pushing an extreme ideological agenda designed to take away a woman’s constitutional right to choose.

“Congress should be working on the demands of the American people, such as raising the federal minimum wage, addressing climate change and making college more affordable. Instead, we’re spending more time on dangerous legislation that would dramatically restrict access to medical care for millions of women and low-income Americans.”

Last month, the House passed H.R. 3762, which President Obama then vetoed. House leaders failed to override the veto in today’s 241-186 vote. DelBene spoke on the House floor against the measure. Video of her remarks can be found HERE.

More than 55 million women across the country are saving on their healthcare costs because of the contraceptive coverage provisions of the ACA. And each year, Planned Parenthood health centers provide essential healthcare, such as cancer screenings and immunizations, to 2.7 million patients.
