During the past few months, I have fought for the reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Since it was founded in 1964, the LWCF has invested $637 million for projects in Washington, supporting the more than 200,000 jobs and $20 billion per year that outdoor recreation contributes to our state’s economy.
That’s why I’m happy to report that after a brief pause, the LWCF has been reauthorized for three years, at no cost to taxpayers, as a part of the omnibus spending bill Congress passed at the end of last year.
Earlier this year, Rep. DelBene and Sen. Murray visited North Creek Forest to highlight the importance of outdoor spaces for communities, and to call on Congress to reauthorize the LWCF.
However, the fight is not over. Our beautiful state boasts some of our nation's most beautiful forests, mountains and waterways, and I will continue working to permanently authorize the fund so future generations can enjoy the same quality of life that we do.
