DelBene: It’s Past Time Congress End Government Uncertainty

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement after Congress passed yet another short-term continuing resolution to fund the federal government:

“Today, Congress passed another temporary funding bill, and once again kicked the can down the road, needlessly manufacturing another potential crisis early next year,” DelBene said. “As a former CEO, I know firsthand you can’t efficiently run a business for just weeks or months at a time, and the same is true for the government. It’s long past time for Republican leadership, who now control every branch of government, to put an end to this inefficient cycle and broken governance. It’s ludicrous that we waste so much time punting on these funding bills and leave American families and businesses with uncertainty, rather than getting the job done and moving on to issues important to Americans’ long-term success, like housing, education, infrastructure, healthcare and innovative research.”

Congress needed to act by Dec. 22, after continuously kicking the can down the road instead of passing a budget and appropriations bills through regular order before the end of the fiscal year. The government is now funded through Jan. 19.
