On Impeachment

Washington, D.C., September 27, 2019

Dear friend,

This week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives will formally begin an impeachment inquiry into President Trump. I agree with this decision. The evidence shows and the President has already admitted that he asked a foreign government to help him politically, which is a violation of his oath of office and rule of law.  A president requesting a foreign government to interfere with our elections undermines our democracy and national security.

Congress has a constitutional responsibility to perform oversight and investigate executive misconduct. An impeachment inquiry is not something Congress should take lightly. But given the circumstances it is necessary to ensure we are able to fully investigate this extremely serious issue in a timely manner and adhere to our constitutional duties.
