DelBene Statement on Trump Administration’s Testing Strategy to Shift Blame Away from Itself

Representative Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement today after the Trump administration submitted a report to Congress outlining its national testing strategy:

“Over 1,000 lives have been lost in Washington state from this pandemic. People in my district and across our state have been responding to this crisis the longest and they deserve leadership from the federal government. The Trump administration’s national testing strategy is neither national nor strategic. It continues to leave states to fend for themselves in expanding testing capacity and to procure supplies on the open market. This is merely a strategy for the administration to shirk responsibility.

“Congress has already approved billions to expand COVID-19 testing and procure more supplies. The House allocated an additional $75 billion in the Heroes Act for testing and contact tracing. The administration needs to realize that our economic recovery is tied to our public health response. Widespread testing is the key to safely reopening our economy.”
