Congress Sends Historic COVID-19 Relief Bill to President Biden
Washington, D.C.,
March 10, 2021
Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement after the final House passage of the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that will bolster our public health response, mount a national vaccination program, and provide direct relief to workers, families, and communities across the country. “The American people sent us to DC to provide more support for our communities, and a Democratic Congress is delivering with historic legislation that meets the scale of this unprecedented crisis in record time. For all the parents wondering how they’ll put food on the table, for all the laid-off workers trying to keep a roof over their heads, for all the small businesses trying to keep their lights on, and for all the medical professionals exhausted from fighting this virus for over a year: help is on the way.” This package contains an expansion of the Child Tax Credit that was spearheaded by DelBene. The provision will provide regular payments to families of up to $300 per child per month and make it available to lower-income families currently left out of the benefit. This provision is modeled after DelBene’s American Family Act, which would permanently expand the credit and lift an estimated 4 million children out of poverty. The legislation now goes to President Biden for his signature. You can read a summary of the bill here. |
