Counting down to monthly Child Tax Credit payments

Dear friend,

In less than one month, nearly 90% of families will begin receiving monthly Child Tax Credit payments. The one-year expansion of the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan provides qualifying families with monthly payments of up to $300 per child under 6 and up to $250 per child 6-17 years old. In Washington state, these payments are estimated to reach 1.4 million Washington children. These payments can help parents pay rent, secure child care, buy groceries, and afford other essentials for raising a family.

What you need to know about the Child Tax Credit

Payments will automatically be sent to families who are eligible for the credit and have filed their 2020 or 2019 taxes. If you have filed your federal taxes in those years, you do not need to do anything else to receive this benefit.

For those who are not required to file federal taxes normally, the IRS recently launched a new portal that will allow you to provide relevant information and get your Child Tax Credit payments.

For assistance with the portal, my office is available to help you and you can request help here.

While these monthly payments are critical to helping families out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the expanded credit is only in place for a year. I will continue to fight to permanently expand the Child Tax Credit, which will help us cut child poverty in half and rebuild the middle class. This is a historic investment in our kids and our collective future, and we cannot let it pass us by.

As always, I am here to help you. If you need assistance at this difficult time, please don’t hesitate to leave a message with my Kirkland office at (425) 485-0085. For more updates on what I’m doing for WA-01, you can follow me on social media at the links above.

Stay safe and stay healthy,

Suzan
