Help is here for millions of families starting today. Thanks to the historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit that I championed in the American Rescue Plan, monthly checks of up to $300 per child will begin reaching parents today and continue through this December.
If you have children, chances are high that you qualify for these monthly payments. The expanded Child Tax Credit is expected to reach 39 million households, benefiting nearly 90% of all American children.
Most families do not have to take any action to receive this benefit. If you filed your 2020 or 2019 taxes, these payments should reach you automatically by direct deposit or mail. If your family does not normally file taxes, you can sign up for Child Tax Credit payments through the IRS non-filer portal below.
These monthly payments represent a historic investment in our children, but they are currently in place for only one year. I am fighting to permanently expand the Child Tax Credit to provide families with long-term support that they can count on. The permanent Child Tax Credit expansion would help us rebuild our middle class and lift over 4 million children out of poverty, including 65,000 kids here in Washington state. Investments in our children are investments in their health, their education, and our collective future, and this expanded credit would save our country an estimated eight dollars for every one we invest.
