Dear friend,
This week marked the one-year anniversary of President Biden signing the historic American Rescue Plan into law. The plan was centered on getting shots in arms, money in pockets, kids back in schools, and workers back in jobs.
Since then, we have taken meaningful steps forward from making COVID-19 PPE, tests, and vaccines widely available to creating 7.4 million jobs since the president entered office. Much of what the president proposed and accomplished is historic. Here is a breakdown:
- An expansion of the Child Tax Credit benefited roughly 65 million children nationwide, including over 1.4 million kids in Washington state. Monthly Child Tax Credit payments helped keep 3.7 million American children out of poverty and provided a historic tax cut for middle-class families. I continue to champion a renewal of this benefit so parents can have the stability and predictability they deserve as they raise their families.
- Health insurance subsidies helped 3.1 million more Americans get insured in 2021 and 2022. These Affordable Care Act subsidies continue to help millions of Americans and over 175,000 Washingtonians save on their health care plans.
- Financial support to help keep workers and families afloat. This included an extension of the additional $300 per week in federal unemployment benefits and $1,400 stimulus checks that reached more than 85% of American households.
- Roughly $160 billion to tackle COVID-19 and provide free vaccines, support our public health workers, contact tracing, and more. Thanks to this critical investment, 73% of Washingtonians over 5 are fully vaccinated and cases and hospitalizations have dropped considerably in recent weeks.
Experts say the American Rescue Plan is responsible for creating more than
four million jobs in 2021. President Biden and House Democrats continue to build on the success of the American Rescue Plan with legislation that addresses major challenges we face like lowering costs for families by strengthening supply chains, tackling inflation, and providing continued support to our communities.
