President Biden Signs DelBene Baby Formula Tariff Bill into LawLaw takes effect immediately and can save parents over 25% on imported formula
Kirkland, WA,
July 22, 2022
Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) issued the following statement after President Biden signed the Formula Act (H.R. 8351) into law. The measure, championed by DelBene, will help alleviate the ongoing formula crisis by eliminating tariffs on safe imported baby formula: “I want to thank President Biden for swiftly signing the Formula Act into law. Families across the country – especially in Washington – are driving from store to store searching for food for their babies only to find empty shelves. The law will immediately remove tariffs on safe imported formula and could save families more than 25% at the cash register. “Wealthy families could often find ways to import formula, which is typically more expensive, and this law will make it more accessible for middle-class and lower-income families during this extremely challenging time. “The speed at which this legislation moved through Congress underscores the broad bipartisan commitment to helping families get through this crisis and I thank everyone involved for getting this over the finish line.” The legislation passed the House last Friday 421-2 and was unanimously agreed to in the Senate yesterday.
