DelBene Statement on the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision.

“Today’s anniversary is the first time in five decades that women across the country aren’t guaranteed the fundamental right and freedom to make their own health care choices. In the months since the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority overturned this decision, many women have been forced to make the difficult and expensive journey to seek health care out of state, given birth against their will, and even faced prosecution for accessing care.

“No community is immune from the ramifications of the loss of this legal protection. Washington’s health care facilities have seen increased demand for abortion care since Roe was overturned. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress continue their crusade against women’s rights as they push an extremist nationwide abortion ban.

“I will not stop fighting until these protections are once again the law of the land and all women in this country can make their own personal health care decisions.”
