Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on a ruling by a federal judge in Texas striking down an Affordable Care Act provision that provides free preventive care to millions of Americans, shifting the cost back to patients.

“Preventive care is fundamental health care. This decision leverages extreme MAGA ideology to rip health care away from millions of Americans across the country. If this decision stands, science-based screenings for many cancers, diabetes, prenatal care, vision exams for kids, and other preventive services may no longer be free, shifting costs back to families. Preventive screenings save money in the long run by catching diseases and conditions when they are more manageable and treatable.

“I am extremely concerned that this decision also paves the way to strike down access to contraception. Republicans and activist conservative judges will stop at nothing to undermine the Affordable Care Act and reproductive health care.”
