Congresswoman Suzan DelBene is now accepting applications for the first-ever Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for the 2026–2027 school year. This program is designed for high school students who are interested in their community, government, and making a difference. Members of the council will have the chance to share their ideas and perspectives on important issues with Congresswoman DelBene and her team.
As a member of the Youth Advisory Council, students will:
- Meet with and learn from Congresswoman DelBene and her staff.
- Explore how a Congressional office works behind the scenes.
- Discuss current events, policies, and community issues with other students.
- Help create recommendations and ideas to share with Congresswoman DelBene.
The Youth Advisory Council will include up to 10 volunteer high school students, serving a one-year term during the school year, from September through May. There will be no meeting in December because of the holiday break.
Meetings will take place once a month and will alternate between in-person and hybrid formats. Exact meeting dates will be shared after members are selected. Meetings are expected to run from 4:00–5:30 pm, unless otherwise noted.
All current high school students living in Washington’s First Congressional District (WA-01) are welcome to apply and eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. Applications will be open from Thursday, May 21, 2026 through Friday, July 3, 2026. Interviews will be tentatively scheduled for the weeks of July 13 and July 24, 2026 via Teams. Selected applicants will be notified the week of July 29.
