Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today released the following statement after the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a report highlighting how repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would increase the number of Americans without health insurance by 32 million and double health insurance premiums over 10 years:

“The new report from the Congressional Budget Office shows that repealing the Affordable Care Act will cause a staggering 18 million Americans to lose health coverage next year, and 32 million to lose insurance by 2026,” DelBene said. “Clearly, the plan to dismantle the ACA is more about politics than Americans’ well-being. Instead of repeal, we should be working together to strengthen the law to improve patient care and reduce costs for hardworking, middle-class families.”

Last week, DelBene reintroduced legislation to expand the ACA tax credit for small businesses, making it more affordable for small employers to offer health coverage to their workers. Rather than repealing, her legislation builds on the progress already made for middle-class families. She also serves on the House Budget Committee and House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax reform and healthcare issues.
