Tell Me: What Are Your Top Priorities for Congress?

Dear Friend,

At the State of the Union, we celebrated the historic progress that President Biden and Congressional Democrats have made over the past two years from creating millions of good-paying jobs to driving down costs for families.

But President Biden also made clear that we must continue addressing the issues families are facing. As your Congresswoman, I want to hear from you. What issues in Congress are most important to you?

What are your priorities?

I also wanted to share some highlights from President Biden’s address that stood out to me:

Child Tax Credit

“Let’s restore the full Child Tax Credit, which gave tens of millions of parents some breathing room and cut child poverty in half to the lowest level in history.”

In just one year, the Child Tax Credit benefitted over 1.4 million children in Washington state and cut childhood poverty in half. I agree with the President, we must permanently reinstate the expanded this benefit, so no Washingtonian has to raise a family in poverty.

Social Security and Medicaid

“Social Security and Medicare are a lifeline for millions of seniors. Americans have been paying into them with every single paycheck since they started working. Those benefits belong to the American people. They earned them.”

I'll continue fighting to protect and expand these programs for the millions of Washingtonians who’ve earned these benefits.

Lowering Prescription Drug Costs

Insulin is now capped at $35/month for Washington seniors on Medicare.

“But there are millions of other Americans who are not on Medicare, including 200,000 young people with Type I diabetes who need insulin to save their lives. Let’s finish the job this time. Let’s cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month for every American who needs it.”

Tax Fairness

“I signed a law that’ll reduce the deficit by $114B by cracking down on wealthy tax cheats. That’s being fiscally responsible."

Asking the wealthy to pay their fair share requires more IRS enforcement and eliminating loopholes that only benefit the wealthiest Americans and corporations. We must ensure everyone is paying their fair share.

Data Privacy

“It’s time to pass bipartisan legislation to stop Big Tech from collecting personal data on kids and teenagers online, ban targeted advertising to children, and impose stricter limits on the personal data these companies collect on all of us.”

I will continue pushing for a national privacy standard that puts Americans in charge of their sensitive information, regardless of where they live.

Protecting Abortion Access

“Congress must codify Roe v. Wade to protect every woman’s constitutional right to choose.”

Even though Washington state protects access to abortion through state law, SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe will have a profound impact on our state. I will not stop fighting until every woman has access to a safe, legal abortion.
