DelBene Statement on the Highway 530 Mudslide

EVERETT – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene issued the following statement regarding the Snohomish County mudslide in Oso on State Route 530:

“My deepest condolences to those whose loved ones were killed and my thoughts are with the survivors who were injured in this morning’s tragic mudslide on State Route 530. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy.

“While the mudslide occurred this morning, the danger to the surrounding community still exists as night falls. There are flooding concerns both upstream from the location of the mudslide and downstream should the debris dam breach. I strongly urge all residents who are in the flood plain along the Stillaguamish River to follow the direction of local officials to go to higher ground. For more information, residents can call (425) 388-5088.

“I commend all the first responders and emergency management officials who have been working tirelessly today and will undoubtedly work throughout the duration of this crisis for their efforts. My staff and I have been with local and state officials at the Snohomish County Emergency Operations Center today and will continue to be working with them and assisting in any way that we can.”
