Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today voted for the bipartisan Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act (H.R. 158) in an effort to strengthen the screening process of foreigners visiting the United States after recent terrorist attacks. “The safety of Americans is my top priority and it is clear that ISIL poses a growing threat to America and our allies,” DelBene said. “We must work with the international community to combat the terrorist threats of ISIL, not only for the security of the American people but for the security of people around the world. This bipartisan bill is an important step to help keep Americans safe.” The bill, introduced by Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.), would create new visa requirements for all foreigners entering the United States who have recently visited Iraq, Syria, Iran or Sudan. The bill passed in the House on a 407-19 vote and now heads to the Senate for further action. DelBene also cosponsored the Secure Refugee Process Act (H.R. 4038) to make significant improvements to the vetting process for refugees following the Paris attacks. # # # |
