DelBene, Issa Request New Report on Spectrum and the Internet of Things

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and Darrell Issa today sent a letter to Government Accountability Office (GAO) Comptroller Gene Dodaro asking for a report on issues that may arise related to wireless spectrum and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Reps. Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and Darrell Issa today sent a letter to Government Accountability Office (GAO) Comptroller Gene Dodaro asking for a report on issues that may arise related to wireless spectrum and the Internet of Things (IoT).

“With so much potential in the IoT space on the brink of being realized, it’s incredibly important we understand the challenges that may arise as the demand for spectrum skyrockets,” DelBene said. “While we talk frequently about improving broadband access generally, I am concerned the U.S. will miss critical opportunities if we fail to specifically plan how to meet the significant demand for spectrum that billions of Internet-connected devices will bring.”

“We need to better understand how to harness the capabilities of the Internet of Things,” Issa said. “America can lead in the IoT space so that this emerging area of our economy will thrive.”

DelBene and Issa are Co-Chairs and co-founders of the Congressional Internet of Things Caucus. By 2020, IoT will encompass tens of billions of connected devices, adding trillions of dollars to the economy and affecting nearly every aspect of modern life.
