Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) issued the following statement today after one person was killed and several others injured in the partial collapse of the Big Four Ice Caves in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest:

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims of the ice cave collapse. My heart sank when I heard about the collapse in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest on Monday night,” DelBene said. “Thank you to the nearly 100 rescuers who quickly responded to reports of the collapse.”

The Big Four Ice Caves in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest are a popular attraction for hikers in Washington’s First District and are closed until further notice. DelBene’s office reached out to the U.S. Forest Service and the Snohomish County Sheriff Department to offer assistance following the collapse.
