DelBene Statement on EPA Grants Awarded to Tribes in Washington State

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement today, after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded grants to several tribes in Washington state.

“I am pleased the EPA has awarded grants to three Washington state tribes – the Lummi Nation, the Upper Skagit Tribe, and the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community,” DelBene said. “Fishing is critical for these communities, both culturally and commercially, and these grants will allow them to replace polluting marine diesel engines with newer, efficient engines. The cleaner engines are important to maintaining the health of both the air and the communities.”

The EPA is awarding these funds through the Diesel Emission Reduction Act. The three tribes are receiving funds totaling $925,000. Their projects will fund cleaner diesel engines to lower harmful emissions.
