Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today chided House Republicans for wasting even more taxpayer dollars on the harassment and intimidation of women’s healthcare providers and medical researchers. “It’s unfathomable that House Republicans are not only condoning the harassment and intimidation of people involved in life-saving medical research, but approving hundreds of thousands of additional taxpayer dollars to do so,” DelBene said. “This Select Panel has never been a fair and fact-based investigation. Instead of pursuing the truth, the Majority has spent the last year bullying women’s healthcare providers, intimidating scientists, delaying research and trying to cut off lines of scientific inquiry. It is time to stop wasting everyone’s time and money on this ideological crusade against a woman’s constitutional right to choose.” Video of DelBene’s floor speech can be found HERE. Earlier this month, the House Administration Committee approved a resolution dedicating an additional $800,000 to the Panel, which brings the cost of the investigation to nearly $1.6 million. Today, the House voted to approve the funding increase. DelBene is an appointed member of Republicans’ Select Panel to Attack Women’s Health, which was established to investigate Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers after doctored videos were released from a group of anti-choice extremists. In her role on the Select Panel, DelBene is fighting to protect women’s access to healthcare and safeguard the privacy and safety of doctors, patients, researchers and medical students across the country. ### |
