DelBene Statement on President Trump’s Tax Outline

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today released the following statement after President Trump outlined his tax policy priorities:

“Working families and small businesses need certainty and stability to plan and invest for the future. Unfortunately, the President’s tax proposal is just another example of how this administration has been long on rhetoric and short on specifics,” DelBene said. “It remains unclear how this proposal would help middle-class families or how it would be paid for. Creating a tax code that blows up the deficit and benefits only the wealthiest Americans at the expense of working families is not the kind of tax reform that my constituents need.

“Historically, comprehensive tax reform has only worked when it has been a bipartisan effort. Tax reform matters to every American, and that’s why I’m calling for congressional leaders and the President to listen to all perspectives, and allow Democrats a seat at the table as the process moves forward.”

DelBene, who served as Washington state’s Director of the Department of Revenue before joining Congress, has a seat on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy. Any tax reform legislation would have to go through the Ways and Means Committee before receiving a vote.
