DelBene to Blackburn: Where are the Relevant Witnesses?

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today suggested Select Panel Chairman Marsha Blackburn call more relevant witnesses ahead of the latest taxpayer-funded hearing.

“The Chairman called a hearing on ‘fetal tissue pricing,’ yet none of the Majority’s witnesses will be able to answer questions on that topic,” DelBene said. “If Chairman Blackburn were truly interested in better understanding this issue, she’d take up the offer of organizations engaged in this work to answer the Panel’s questions. Instead of conducting a fair and honest investigation focused on facts, Republicans seem determined to use this taxpayer-funded Panel to make more false allegations and insinuations that are rooted in extreme ideological opinions about women’s rights.”

Wednesday’s hearing, titled “The Pricing of Fetal Tissue,” is the second Select Panel meeting called by Republicans for political theater. The Majority has failed to call a single witness who is involved in fetal tissue procurement or research.

DelBene is an appointed member of Republicans’ Select Panel to Attack Women’s Health, which was established to investigate Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers after doctored videos were released from a group of anti-choice extremists – who have since been indicted by a grand jury on felony charges. In her role on the Select Panel, DelBene is fighting to protect women’s access to healthcare and safeguard the privacy and safety of doctors, patients and medical students across the country.
