DelBene announces a $200,000 Grant to Assist Skagit-area Farms

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene announced that the Northwest Agriculture Business Center in Mount Vernon will receive $200,000 from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support local farmers and agriculture related businesses.

Awarded through the USDA’s Rural Cooperative Development Grant program, the funds will go to help the Northwest Agriculture Business Center’s work in assisting local farmers grow, expand and prosper. They provide a number of services such as business planning, marketing/sales assistance, gaining access to capital and rural cooperative development.

Since 2006, the Northwest Agriculture Business Center has helped local farmers obtain skills and resources to grow and sell their food efficiently and profitably.

“Our local farms and food producers are the foundation of the Skagit’s economy,” said DelBene. “It’s critically important that we help farmers adapt to always evolving market conditions by ensuring they have the tools and expertise they need to succeed. From assisting new farmers to get up and running, to advising small producers looking to expand, the Northwest Agriculture Business Center has a strong record of helping our local farmers. These federal funds will allow them to continue their important work strengthening our local agricultural economy.”
