DelBene Statement on Ryan Republican Budget

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene released the following statement about the House Republican Budget.

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene released the following statement about the House Republican Budget:

“Our nation is in a fragile recovery, and my top priority in Congress is to build the foundation for an economy that works for everyone, ensuring access to opportunity for all.

“Disappointingly, House Republicans released an uncompromising budget proposal today filled with more of the same old extreme policies that hurt the middle class and small businesses. This budget limits economic opportunity for working families and those struggling to make ends meet. I’m disappointed that their proposal fails to offer serious bipartisan solutions to tackle our nation’s fiscal challenges.

“The Republican budget once again proposes to end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting greater costs onto seniors while delivering less care. It will result in painful cuts to our children, by slashing important investments in education.   The safety net for our nation’s most vulnerable citizens will be shredded.  It does all of this while giving tax cuts for corporations and high wage earners.

“These cuts will cause real, lasting damage in our economy. I personally know how important programs that provide affordable access to a quality education are to ensuring economic opportunity for everyone. This budget makes cuts to those programs and does not reflect the values of the families in the 1st District.

“Instead of pushing for divisive policies that have already been litigated, settled and have been rejected by the voters, Washington families deserve a better, bipartisan approach.

“I understand that this is only the beginning of the conversation and I hope that as the House and Senate continue to deliberate and debate the budget in the weeks ahead, we will be able to come together in a bipartisan way to find a balanced approach to our fiscal challenges. We must pass a responsible budget that protects the promise of Social Security and Medicare, and encourages innovation and job creation. This is how we will build an economy that works for everyone.”
