Addressing the Zika virus

Dear Friend,

As you may know, the Zika virus has spread rapidly around the world, and we are now seeing increased cases here in the United States. It’s critical that Congress act now to address this serious public health threat.

Earlier this year, I called on House leaders to hold a vote on President Obama’s full emergency funding request to combat the Zika outbreak. But time is running out with only three legislative days left before the House adjourns for the summer. We can and must provide the much-needed emergency funding to ensure our researchers, public health agencies, medical professionals and most importantly, women, are prepared to address this outbreak.

More than 3,600 Americans already have confirmed cases of Zika, including nearly 600 pregnant women, and those numbers are expected to grow with the arrival of mosquito season. There is little time to waste. Members of Congress need to stop the politicking and work together on a bipartisan solution that provides the necessary resources to fight Zika. If we don’t, we’ll be putting thousands of American families in harm’s way.
