A Busy August in WA01

Dear Friend,

It was a busy August back in the beautiful First Congressional District! I had the opportunity to travel throughout the district talking to folks about ways Congress can update our laws to ensure all Americans succeed in the rapidly changing economy.

Nowhere in the country is the economic impact of innovation and entrepreneurship more visible than in Washington’s First District, where our local industries — ranging from aerospace, manufacturing, and high-tech to agriculture, clean energy and healthcare — are driving the economy forward. But we need a national commitment to ensuring that not a single American is left behind as we forge new paths ahead.

I met with workers to discuss challenges they face gaining the skills needed to succeed in today’s economy, and heard from employers and educators who are working to close that skills gap through apprenticeships, K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and innovative community college programs. As a member of the House Budget Committee, I hope to bring the experiences of Washington state back to the other Washington to remind my colleagues in Congress that these smart investments will not only have an incredible effect on our economy, but also on people’s lives. By ensuring every American has the opportunity to become self-sufficient through educational and job training programs that are right for them, we can make every community, family and business in the nation stronger and more resilient.
