Jobs and the Economy
Dear Friend, Recently, the House Democratic Caucus announced the creation of the Jobs for America Task Forces to help craft a legislative agenda that will benefit hardworking Americans and middle-class families. I was named co-chair of the New Economy Task Force, which is one of five Task Forces aimed at identifying opportunities and solutions for American workers across the country. With a rapidly changing economy and new challenges facing American workers, the New Economy Task Force will take a forward-leaning approach to job growth, looking at rapid technological innovations in all areas of our economy to ensure workers are trained for the jobs of tomorrow. We have seen many changes in the way the world works from e-commerce to advanced manufacturing and these changes have created great opportunities and painful disruptions. And our policies have not kept pace with these changes. Our goal is to makes sure workers have the tools they need to take advantage of the opportunities and to overcome the disruptions. We need a national commitment to ensure not a single American is left behind as we forge new paths ahead. My co-chairs and I will be meeting with and asking for feedback from business and labor leaders, educators, issue experts and workers to develop policy goals and solutions that will benefit all Americans. By creating opportunities for long-term job growth in America, we can make every community, family and business in the nation stronger and more resilient. As always, my office is here to serve you.
